Lesson 10:  Introduction to Rocks

 

This lesson introduces you to the world of rocks.

 

Key Idea:

The earth’s crust is composed of solid rock.  There are different types of rock.  Rocks can be classified (grouped) according to how they are formed.

 

Objectives:

At the end of this lesson you will be able to:

1.      name three different types of rock

2.      state how each rock type is formed

3.      give two examples of each rock type

 

Step 1.

Earlier you studied how the earth’s crust was made up of plates that moved relative to each other.  From your studies, can you predict how different rocks are formed?

 

Write down the different ways you think rocks are made.
